JEWELLERY CARE

All of my jewellery is handmade using sterling silver and mixed metals such as brass and copper (with the exception of my resin jewellery, which is silver plated), and so should last forever if cared for properly.

Sterling silver tarnishes naturally over time from exposure to the air, but there are ways to prevent this from happening. Below is a list of things you can do to protect your jewellery, and help keep it bright and shiny!

  • Remove before showering, swimming and exercising, and before going to bed

  • When getting ready, put jewellery on last to avoid catching on clothes

  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, sprays and makeup (wait for perfume to dry first!)

  • Regularly use a silver polishing cloth to maintain sparkle

  • Store pieces separately to avoid scratching and chains tangling

Copper and brass oxidise faster than silver, so will require more regular cleaning with a silver polishing cloth to prevent tarnishing.

If your silver jewellery is severely tarnished, you can make an effective cleaning bath using just a few household items.

  1.  Line a bowl or shallow dish with tin foil, shiny side up

  2.  Lay your jewellery in the bowl, ensuring that it doesn't get tangled

  3.  Sprinkle some bicarbonate of soda over the jewellery, lightly covering it

  4.  Pour hot water in the bowl and let sit until the fizzing stops

  5.  Rinse your jewellery - it should look as good as new!
